The exhibit Atomic Zombie Beatniks from Space invades Tangent Lab this Final Friday, featuring the efforts of the New Arts Collective members Spike Hemans, Scott Korth, Jaki McElroy, Mary Streepy, Brandon Smith, Chris Trenary and Landon Taylor. Be in the gallery at 10 p.m. to hear the artists speak during our 10 @ 10 series, and also enjoy the sounds of DJ Sampson and Crave One throughout the night.
Artist's Statement from Spike Hemans:
The NAC originally came about to bring a group of young and dedicated artists together to exhibit and to support each other in our community. But now it has grown from that into a group of like minded artists, all of whom have experience in art school and academia, who want to break away from the conventional and bland path of conceptual dogma that many young artists are pushed down as they begin their careers. We believe that the future of artistic expression, and the most effective way of reaching a large audience, is through a combination of formal quality and original thought. We believe that imagery that is well executed and placed in a overall work that is visually appealing can best serve as a window to delivering a clear idea, unlike many contemporary conceptual works that require a text of theory and or a backlog of previous references.
Overall it's simple. a balance of skill and idea, and a return to a classic sense of style and aesthetic with a contemporary flavor.
