Free art give-away. Late-night gallery talk. A robot vacuum that draws. Cheese cubes. What more could you want from an art show? Check your calendar now and save the date for Saturday, February 17th to attend the opening reception of (breaking) FREE (of standard conventions) at Tangent Lab. Stick around till 10 p.m. and hear the artists talk about their work during 10@10.
Artist's Statement:
“There's a certain irony in what we chose for this show. Our signature styles, up to this point, are comprised of flinging or dripping paint, and as such, are loosely similar. A good fit, one could say. But, at the same time, we wanted to really try different things. Not just the usual 5% different or the "kick it up a notch" different (we would point out that a notch is just that - one notch.)
“So we are starting with slightly similar styles, throwing those out the window, and starting over. Breaking FREE, sort of. Will there by any continuity to this process, any historical basis for these finished products? Chris Frank is revisiting drawings he did years ago. Lee Shiney is adhering to "circle" concepts, but not with the usual methodologies. If you love our work (that's most of you, judging from the "love your work" and "great show" comments usually bantered around in the past) then you will find exciting new work that raises the bar over what you previously have expected. If you find our past work to be derivative and banal, this show will likely surprise you with profoundly different pieces. Hey, something for everyone!
For the rest of you who want something even more different, there will be a robot vacuum cleaner actually drawing during the show, uh, "creating so you don't have to." And, if that weren't enough, we're giving away FREE artwork (yes, there is a double meaning to the show title) to the first 200 live humans through the door, although some rules do apply. We suggest you read the fine print at http://www.leeshiney.com.
Gosh, we hope you like us.”
