Artist Jaki McElroy returns to the gallery this Fall with her solo exhibit, Broad Spectrum. Featuring an exploration of color and symbolic imagery, Jaki's fluid and detailed renderings will be here on display at Tangent Lab, opening this Saturday night, September 24 at 7 p.m. Jaki will speak about her
creative process during our 10@10 gallery talk series, starting at 10 p.m.
Artist Statement by Jaki:
I liked the idea of color association as a theme for this show, so as soon as I had 30 cabinet doors rounded up a few months ago I planned on 5 shades of each of the primary and secondary colors. I wrote all of them out and started jotting down the first few things that came to mind and went with it. Animals, plants, landmarks, instruments, natural wonders, imagery and iconography all revolving around the color spectrum. I would picture a color before I went to bed and wake up to write down whatever images I'd dreamt of.
Starting with reds back in the spring, as summer came I worked on oranges, yellows, greens, blues, purples, and am topping it off with brown, black, gray, and white, can't leave those out with fall approaching. I hope people will enjoy exploring their own ideas of what certain colors bring to mind, color is both emotive and expressive, these are just representative of the way my mind works. Colorfully.
